Subhashita:

चन्दनं शीतलं लोके,चन्दनादपि चन्द्रमाः |

चन्द्रचन्दनयोर्मध्ये शीतला साधुसंगतिः ||

Words Meaning:

चन्दनं- Sandalwood

शीतलं- Cold/ cool

लोके- in this world

चन्दनादपि- even/ than chandana

चन्द्रमाः- moon

चन्द्रचन्दनयोर्मध्ये- Between Chandana and Chandra i.e, Sandalwood & Moon

शीतला- Cool/ Calm

साधु- saint/ well wisher or Friends

संगतिः- company

Meaning of the Subhashita:

Sandalwood is considered cool in the world, but the moon is cooler than sandalwood. The company of good friends is more cooling than both moon and sandalwood.

ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧವನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಂಪಾಗಿ ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಚಂದ್ರನು ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧಕ್ಕಿಂತ ತಂಪಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರ ಸಹವಾಸವು ಚಂದ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧದ ಮರಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ತಂಪಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ

अर्थात : संसार में चन्दन को शीतल माना जाता है लेकिन चन्द्रमा चन्दन से भी शीतल होता है | अच्छे मित्रों का साथ चन्द्र और चन्दन दोनों की तुलना में अधिक शीतलता देने वाला होता है |
